FREEDOM RADIO 99.5FM Muryar Jama’a (Voice of the People) came on air 1st December 2003. This is a fully computerized, digital, stereo, independent radio station.  The very first of its kind in Northern Nigeria.

We are based in the historic commercial city of Kano, which happens to be a major gateway for all the products and services you all laboriously package together for sale to the consumers.

We are transmitting on a 10KW transmitter with a standby 2KW transmitter.  Our main antenna is hoisted on a 400ft mast while our standby antenna is hoisted on a 130ft mast.  Even our live-on-air studio has a standby. We are equipped with a very modern and fully computerised digital recording studio for all your north bound productions.  This studio is now fully commercialized. All our equipments including transmitters are placed on UPS.  This will ensure uninterrupted programming and reliability.

As we are fully computerised, our entire library for music, programmes, jingles, etc are stored on our server for prompt and easy access as well as scheduling. Our Air tracking system is capable of storing everything that goes on air for a minimum of 90 days.  Within this period, all materials can be retrieved from the air tracker on demand. 

Our sound processor is in stereo.  We are capable of outside broadcast on short notice.  We have equipment that allows us to transmit telephone signals in stereo.   Our job is made easier with the prevalence of wireless telephone systems across major cities and towns in the country.  Even in rural areas where there are no telephone facilities; we are capable of live broadcast using satellite phones.

The jewel on our crown is our range of coverage, which makes us the most unique FM station in Nigeria.  Unlike other FM stations which are mainly metropolitan in terms of their coverage.

FREEDOM RADIO has a range of about two hundred kilometers as the crow flies.  We cover the entirety of Kano, 80% of Jigawa and Katsina states as well as parts of Yobe, Kaduna, Bauchi, Plateau and Zamfara states.  We even inadvertently reach Maradi and Zinder in Niger Republic.  This area has a population of about 30 million inhabitants.

Being the first indigenous independent radio station in the north, FREEDOM RADIO 99.5 FM enjoys wide acceptance and listenership.  This has brought a lot of people into our studios.  They include very important dignitaries, interest groups as well as ordinary people who form the bulk of radio listenership.
