The Supreme Court had upheld the election of Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, in the April Governorship Election in the state.
Consequently, the apex court dismissed the appeal brought by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), challenging the decision of the election tribunal and the Court of Appeal which had earlier upheld the victory of Lamido.
The Jigawa State Election Tribunal had earlier upheld the victory of Lamido. Not satisfied with the tribunal’s decision, the ACN approached the Court of Appeal which also affirmed the decision of the tribunal. Still not satisfied, ACN approached the apex court seeking to set aside the decision of the lower court.
In its brief judgement, a panel of three justices headed by Justice Mohammed Mahmud held that he had gone through the processes filed and the argument of counsels and has come to the conclusion that the appeal lacks merit, adding that the lower courts were right in their concurrent decision which upheld the victory of Lamido in the April governorship election.
However, the court had fixed February 24 to give reasons for its judgement.
