The senator representing Kano South in the National Assembly, Architect Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya has denied claims by Kano state government that he appropriated a 10-hectare plot belonging to it in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Senator Kabiru Gaya told Freedom Radio that he did not own a single plot in the area but he was involved in seeking compensation for the developers that built 109 houses on the plot.
He explained that he secured the 20-hectare Lokogoma Estate for Kano state during his tenure as governor betweern 1991 and 1993 but was confiscated by the FCT administration during the Shekarau administration from 2003-2011.
He added that the plot was thereafter allocated to private developers but was later confiscated leading to the demolishing of their buildings.
Accusation
However, Kano state governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has accused senator Kabiru Gaya of laying claim to half of the estate for his personal use.
Governor Kwankwaso made the accusation as the FCT administration directed that the plot be returned to Kano state government.
He regretted that a senator voted into office by people's vote should allow his personal interest to supersede public interest.
