Five people have been killed and 30 others injured during protests against fuel subsidy removal in Kano.
The Nigerian Medical Association said 18 of the injured protesters have gunshot wounds.
However the state commissioner of police, Ibrahim K Idris acknowledged the killing of one protester and injuring seven people.
He alleged that those killed were not part of the peaceful protest organised by labor but 'miscreants' bent on attacking the state government house.
The commissioner of police alleged that the protesters have pulled the fence of the government house, burnt more than 20 vehicles and injured two police men.
