Kano branch of the Nigerian Bar Association has urged the state government to establish a commission of inquiry into the riot that accompanied the anti-fuel subsidy withdrawal protest in the state.
Chairman of the Branch, Barrister Abdurrazaq Aikawa said the measure became necessary to punish those who vandalized the government house and the security officials that used excessive force to kill some of them.
Those killed during the protests include Bashir Isa Zango, Sulaiman Abubakar Buba, Isa Abdullahi, Abdulmalik Rabiu and Sagir Gwammaja Kofar Wakili.
Barrister Aikawa said the mandate of the commission would be to find out what actually happened at the Kano state government house on Monday 9th January 2012.
He added that the inquiry will assuage the feelings of the bereaved families and the victims of police shooting during the riot.
Meanwhile the Kano state Police command has arrested six policemen including a corporal for allegedly killing Sagir Gwammaja Kofar Wakili and shooting Hamisu Hudu at Kurnar Asabe.
However, both the Police and the state government have been silent about the shootings that occured at the government House on 9th January.
