Closure of Sabon Gari Drug Market no going back-KNSG
- Written by Baraka Bashir
Speaking during an interactive session with Patent Medicine Dealers, top security officials and other stakeholders at the Government House Kano, Governor Kwankwaso stressed that the action is in the best interest of all the citizens of the state.
The governor maintained that National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had since set up a committee in the state to tackle illicit sale of drugs in the market.
He noted that the committee had already confiscated and destroyed fake and adulterated drugs worth over N600 million recently and has also discovered and sealed warehouses containing similar medicines in Kano.
The governor said a situation whereby drugs are sold in open place such as Sabon Gari market like vegetables or grains will not be accepted and contradits best practices anywhere in the world.
He pointed out that selling of drugs in markets has given room for sale of substandard, fake and expired drugs which threatens public health.
