``The clarification becomes necessary due to the report by a section of the

media that the Warri Refinery has been shut down for a routine maintenance

which will last 21 days. The day-to-day operations’ report from the refinery

shows that it is producing at 63 per cent of its installed capacity,’’ he said in the

statement.

Pepple said that even on Christmas day when the report was ran by a national

daily the refinery was running.

``The plant has no immediate maintenance issues that will require it to be shut

down for 21 days as reported,’’ the NNPC spokesman said.

He urged members of the public to discountenance the report and that NNPC

was doing everything within its powers to ensure an all-round availability of

petroleum products during the festive season.

Pepple also called on journalists to verify information with relevant authorities

before going to press.
