Lawmaker urges FG to relocate tank farms

Reports say that the call followed the explosion on a barrage servicing MRS Oil and Gas Tank Farm at the Tin-Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos on Wednesday.

``I said it severally, that tank farms are combustible and any slightest fire will result into a serious disaster and that is what we have seen on Wednesday. ``Apapa is choked right now and we cannot continue to have more of tank farms. The tank farms should be relocated to fallow lands. ``We have lands in Ibeju-Lekki and Badagry axis and if they can be relocated to these areas, it will open up development in those places,’’ he said.

He decried the manner at which petrol tankers were parked on roads in Apapa Area.

Egberongbe urged the Federal Government to put necessary infrastructure in place for the tank farms to be relocated to places like Badagry and Ibeju-Lekki areas of the state.

Pending the time the government will heed to our voice, by relocating the tank farms to another place, the way these tankers come into Apapa should be regulated.
