PTA rejects scrapping of NECO,UTME

The National President of the association, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, said in a

statement made  in Kaduna, that the policy would prevent thousands of students

from qualifying for further studies.

It suggested the upgrading of NECO to make it more responsive to the needs of

Nigerian students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

``These examination bodies, if scrapped, will not do anyone any good. Instead

of scrapping these very important agencies, government should improve and

consolidate on their achievements,’’ it added.

The body also canvassed for the extension of the validity period for UTME results

to two years, to reduce the stress on students and the burden on parents in

paying for the examination every year.

``Annually, our schools produce hundreds of thousands of students that have

the option of either writing WAEC or NECO to qualify them for admission into

tertiary institutions which cannot adequately cater for them, said Alhaji

Danjuma.’’
