Angry reactions have been trailing Nigeria’s ouster from the African Nations Cup tournament after a 2-2 drawn game against the Syli Nationale of Guinea in their Group `B’ match at the Abuja National Stadium.

The 2-2 draw has ensured that the Guineans, who had been leading Group `B’, got the lone group slot to participate in the 28th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations which will be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in 2012.

Soccer fans across the country said the Super Eagles failed to clinch the group’s ticket due to lack of commitment from the players.

“A sad day for football”

A veteran sports analyst, Mr Ayo Ositelu, described the country’s ouster from the tournament as ``a sad day for our football’’.

Former Green Eagles goalkeeper Joe Erico, however, said that the Guineans came with a game plan which worked well for them.

Mr Ibrahim Garba, a member of the National Troupe of Nigeria, said he was particularly angry at the poor performance of some key members of the team.

Mr Adekunle Ayodeji, a civil servant, said that the major problem of the team was its defence, which soon collapsed after the match commenced.

Mr Aba Onnoghen, another member the National Troupe, said that the coach committed a serious blunder by dumping the first-choice goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama.
