Senate summons minister over customs corruption

The Senate has summoned the minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala over allegations that the Nigerian Customs Service had auctioned some equipment of National Independent Power Projects. (NIPP).

Minister of Power Dr. Barth Nnaji had told the senate committee on Power that the customs service had sold the imported equipment to marketers.

Dr. Nnaji said the police had arrested some of the marketers but discovered that the customs service sold thu equipment to them.

Subsequently, chairman of the senate committee on Power, Mr. Philip Aduda ordered the minister of finance to present the list of contracts awarded for the power project and the money paid to the contractors.
