10 thousand Nigerians risk rabies yearly  - WHO World Health Organisation

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says 10 thousand Nigerians are exposed to rabies annually.

A report by the WHO says one person dies of rabies every 10 minutes annually.

Chairman of the  Abuja chapter of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association Dr. Simon Enem disclosed this at a forum marking the World Veterinary Day.

He said the number of people infected by rabies may be more than reported due to misdiagnoses and underreporting in the country.

Speaking at the occassion, Dr. Olaniran Alabi of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture explained that rabies is a virus found in the saliva of infected animals.
