The Department of Petroleum Resources has cautioned petroleum markets against engaging the services of  unregistered distribution companies.

Kano and Jigawa States Operational Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Sayyadi Suleiman Abubakar gave the warning at the annual petroleum products marketers meeting held in Kano.

Alhaji Sayyadi Abubakar says eighty percent of the fire accidents recorded last year occurred during product discharging operation.

He said investigation of the various incidents also revealed lack of underground earthen system as the main cause.

In his remark, chairman of independent petroleum marketers association, Alhaji Basheer Bello urged members of the association to implement guidelines on safety of handling petroleum product.
